The international opening: by attracting foreign doctoral researchers, the intervention in the programme of international scientific experts, the choice of English for the lessons, supporting international visits and seminars.

INTEGRATED VISION OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

The objective of the school is to train doctoral researchers who are specialists in their thesis domain with an in-depth knowledge of their discipline.

STRUCTURED TRAINING

Shared between methodology lessons essential for the technical mastery of management sciences and specialist courses covering a large range of disciplinary fields in an in-depth manner.

ESTABLISHED EXPERIENCE

Training based on a long tradition of scientific research carried out by teams and partner institutions and a broad experience of post graduate programmes.

The Doctoral School of Management (DSM) is an F.R.S.-FNRS GRADUATE SCHOOL within the F.R.S.-FNRS GRADUATE COLLEGE in Economic and Management Sciences.


F.R.S.-FNRS Graduate Colleges and Graduate Schools are interuniversity and inter-academy. The DSM graduate school is composed of the Université catholique de Louvain (Louvain School of Management) and the Université de Namur (Faculty of Economics, Social Science and Business Administration).


A second Graduate School is part of the F.R.S.-FNRS Graduate College in Economic and Management Sciences, the Doctoral School in Management. It is composed of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the Université de Mons (UMons) and the Université de Liège (ULg). Doctoral students are free to register to activities organized by both graduate schools.


Every F.R.S.-FNRS Graduate College is placed under the responsibility of a SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL specific to each university.

INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC RANKING

The Doctoral School of Management and its graduates are recognized for their quality in international scientific rankings and on the academic and private jobmarkets. About 50% of the graduates from the Doctoral School of Management teach in different international universities in Europe, North and South America and Africa, the remainder occupies qualified positions in private and public organizations across the world.


ADMISSION & DOCTORAL TRAINING

The doctoral training contains a three-year programme (180 ECTS). Admission to the programme is given to strong candidates with Master’s degrees in management (5-year equivalent or 300 ECTS), having received the support of a permanent faculty member from UCLouvain and Louvain School of Management to mentor their training. Thus, the programme already requires the student to carefully reflects on the field of interest and their capacity to undertake research to get into the programme.

RESEARCHER & SUPERVISOR

Each doctoral student has a senior faculty member as personal supervisor to guide them in their research and is an active member of a research groups within a research institute at UCLouvain or UNamur.

PROGRAMME STEPS

The progress in the program is guided by a supervisory panel along four mandatory steps:

  • A definitive admission for a project,
  • A confirmation exam,
  • A private doctoral defense,
  • The public doctoral defense.

The doctoral program is heavily subsidized and comes at a nominal tuition fee: full financing through teaching and research assistantships, scholarships and fellowships are open on competitive terms.
